Life With LuLu – Beach Bound!

LuLu's first day at the beach!

No matter where I’ve lived, there’s been an ocean close at hand.  As a child growing up in the coastal town of Beverly, Massachusetts the beaches were an everyday item on the menu.  As an adult it’s been living on Virginia Beach, along the Great Lakes, Cape Cod, Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina, and now the beaches of northern California are within a great and scenic drive.

Today’s game plan:

Take LuLu to the beach for the first time.

Destination: Dillon Beach.

Dillon Beach is literally right up the street – a wonderful 30 minute drive along Bodega Avenue.  Ranches, farmlands, all as green as Dublin on St. Patrick’s Day will be the scenery into this historic, small resort with a prime location.   Dillon’s population is just under 400, where fishing, crabbing, clam digging, rock climbing, and abalone hunting are just some of the activities.  Bicyclists, hikers and surfers all congregate  anytime of year … and if we’re lucky today we may spot a grey whale or two.  These whales are in the migratory process right now and on their way to Mexico.

Dillon is truly a special place at the end of the road. Dog lovers paradise! Though wherever people are having a great time, you can almost always count on Captain A-Hole to arrive.  Last summer we saw a family literally CARRY a large barbecue grill, similar to the one you’d have on your back porch and set up shop right in the middle of the beach.  Fired it up and within 15 minutes of arriving they were grilling chicken and literally smoking out and pissing off their neighbors all at the same time.  Just when you think you’ve seen it all, right?  We just sat where we were, approximately 150 yards to the north and up wind.  We sat back and laughed and half expected to see a knock down, drag out (okay, maybe just me).

We don’t expect to see that crew today, but I’m sure there’s going to be plenty of folks out there, particularly dog owners.  The weather is starting to turn here.  Temperatures predicted for 70’s all week 🙂

We plan to shove off before noon today – and no beach kit is complete without a camera and our LuLu!

Details to follow.

Peace,

Papa
