Life With LuLu – Family First (Night)

The west coast frat house!

As I watch the Chick-Fil-A Bowl come to a close with the Steve Spurrier (sans the signature visor) Gamecocks down by nine points the girls are out doing a quick visit to the grocer for tonight’s venue of grilled steaks, home-made french fries and some local zinfandel.  Bonnie and I had plans to spend “first night” at a local eatery but when Logan’s plans were cancelled we did too so we can all usher in 2011 together as a family.  Only makes sense, and LuLu would have to agree – pink toenails and all.  What?

Taylor’s friends came over and she took off for Rohnert Park later this afternoon.  Once Logan’s plans caved in there was no way in the world we were leaving her behind.  Even though she acted like a trooper and gave us all kinds of reasons why she could be left alone there’s one thing you recognize when your family follows you 3,000 miles clear across the country – you return the favor each and every day.  Enough self-gratification.  What was that about the pink toenails on LuLu?

Well the Gamecocks are down to 4th down with 14 yards to go and the Seminole nation is celebrating loud and strong.  There’s 3:16 on the clock and the ball has been turned over to FSU … I’m not even going to start talking about my dislike for any Florida football program; particularly Florida State.  There was a comment earlier about pink toenails on LuLu, wasn’t there?

Where the heck is the remote? Game over … no bowl victory for our boys in Columbia.  The fraternity flag (thank you Taylor) will continue to fly outside until the morning … but there’s no happiness for Gamecock Nation tonight losing to FSU.  Turnovers will kill you.

Yea yea, turnovers, Gamecocks, flags, what about the pink toenails?

Okay.  I took Thursday off to spend it with the girls, including LuLu.  We made a spa appointment for her early Thursday morning.  Logan and I took her down to Fit N’ Furry and I asked the receptionist if they could paint her nails.  I wanted to do this as a surprise for Bonnie.  Pink of course!!  What is happening to me?

She loves the monthly pamper and the crew and Fit N’ Furry always say she’s a doll.  It normally takes about ninety minutes and during that time Logan and I were able to spend some “q” time together having breakfast at Marvin’s.  Taylor decided to stay under the sheets and settle for Lucky Charms.  Aaah the life of a twenty-year old sophomore.  When the call came to pick LuLu up we hustled back there and was completely surprised to see my big old bully with pink toenails.  The groomer had added a bow to her collar that said “My Groomer Loves Me” … pink toenails on Paul Cheney’s bulldog.  Holy smoke.  Do I blame the wine? Do I blame the ladies in my life? Both? Who cares … she looks great and I ruined the surprise when I talked with Bonnie who immediately requested photos so she could show them off to the crew at work.

Well, the russets have been sliced and are under the lid, the t-bones have been seasoned … our own little version of CHOPPED.  Our crew out on the east coast and fellow PATS/CELTS/B’s/BOSOX fans will be toasting in the new year in exactly ten minutes.  Bonnie and I have a number of red wines should we decide to head that way.

A special New Year’s shout-out to Mary for introducing the red grape to my wife.  I tried for twenty-two years and have new-found respect for girlfriend power.

Again … Happy New Year’s to everyone.

Peace,

GO PATS!!

Papa

P.S.  Coach Spurrier – when you get to the next Bowl game – may I suggest the signature visor?
